Bona Wave 2K

What it is
Wave 2K is a true two-component water-based polyurethane -- same class of chemistry as Traffic HD, tuned for floors that need serious durability without needing the absolute maximum hardness the Traffic range delivers. Perfect for busy family homes, rentals, cafes, shops, and any moderate-traffic commercial space where you want 2K wear resistance at a friendlier price point.
Why installers use it
- Genuine 2K. Not a hybrid or single-pot -- real two-component chemistry with proper cross-link cure.
- High build. Fills and lays down well, so you get a full-looking coat without chasing thin spots.
- Great for light-coloured timbers. Works especially well on pale boards -- blackbutt, Tasmanian oak, American oak -- and pairs with Bona White when you want a whitewashed Scandi look.
- Excellent sanding properties. Intercoat abrade is clean, no gummy loading on the screen.
- Fast drying. 2-3 hours between coats, so you can lay primer and two topcoats in a single day on most jobs.
- Non-yellowing. Keeps the pale timbers looking pale -- no amber drift over years of UV.
- Ultra-low VOC. TVOC just 30 g/L -- one of the lowest in the Bona range, safer on the jobsite and for the home-owner.
Sheen options
- Silkmatt — 50% gloss at 60°. A soft, not-quite-satin look that's become popular on modern residential.
- Matt — 20% gloss. Hides scratches and footprint marks, closer to natural timber feel.
Coverage & specs
- Coverage: 8-10 m² per litre per topcoat. 8 m²/L for primer coats.
- Drying: 2-3 hours between coats.
- TVOC: 30 g/L.

Wave 2K vs Traffic HD?
Traffic HD is the commercial benchmark -- extreme wear rating, built for airports and retail fitouts. Wave 2K gives you genuine 2K chemistry at a step-down price, aimed at floors that need real durability but don't need Traffic HD's extreme hardness. Think busy family homes, rentals, cafes, boutique shops, offices. If the job is a museum or a shopping centre atrium, go Traffic HD. If it's a five-bedroom home with three kids and a dog, Wave 2K is the value pick that still gives you proper two-component performance.
How to apply
Sand to a fine grit, dust off, prime with Classic UX (or Prime Intense on high-tannin species, or Bona White for whitewash). Mix the Wave 2K hardener into the base per the TDS. Apply two topcoats at 8-10 m²/L with 2-3 hours between. Light intercoat abrade if needed. Walk-on per the TDS walk-on window.
