Bona Traffic HD
The 2K commercial benchmark. Extreme wear resistance, 24-hour turnaround, the finish every other poly gets measured against.
What it is
Traffic HD (Heavy Duty) is Bona's two-component water-based polyurethane. Mix the hardener into the base, you've got the toughest water-based finish Bona makes. Built for the jobs where downtime kills the budget -- retail, halls, museums, galleries, restaurants, airports, anywhere the public walks hard. Full use back in 24 hours under normal conditions.
Why installers use it
- Extreme wear resistance. 1.5 mg per 100 revolutions on the SIS 923509 wear test -- at or below the top of the class for water-based poly.
- 100% polyurethane. Full 2K cross-linked chemistry, not a hybrid.
- 24-hour return to use. Walk-on ready in a day, full cure over the following week. Commercial jobs get the floor back without losing a week's trading.
- Non-yellowing, UV stable. Holds its colour in sun-drenched retail fitouts and doesn't go amber over time.
- Low-odour, safer to work with. Water-based chemistry, 50 g/L TVOC across all sheens. Safer on the jobsite and for the trades behind you.
- Overcoats prefinished floors. Gives you a proper refurbishment path on engineered boards that can't be fully resanded.
- Works with every Bona primer. Classic UX for natural look on most species. Prime Intense for tannin control and grain pop on blackbutt / tallowwood.
Sheen options
- Satin — 45% gloss at 60°. The commercial default.
- Matt — 20% gloss. Softer look, hides scratches and footprint marks better.
- Extra Matt — 10% gloss. Closest to a raw-timber appearance in a 2K poly.
Coverage & specs
- Coverage: 8-10 m² per litre per coat.
- Drying: 2-3 hours between coats.
- Walk-on: 24 hours under normal conditions.
- TVOC: 50 g/L (all sheens).
- Wear rating: 1.5 mg/100 rev (SIS 923509).
- Compatible primers: Bona Classic UX, Prime Intense.
Traffic HD vs Traffic GO?
HD is the two-component commercial standard -- you mix part A into part B, pot life ticks, and you get the absolute hardest finish Bona makes. GO gives you most of that durability in a one-pot package with zero mixing and zero waste. Pick HD for serious commercial -- retail fitouts, museums, schools, galleries, high-end hospitality -- where the extra hardness is worth the mixing step. Pick GO when you want the simplicity and still need a finish that holds up in a busy home or light commercial space. Both sit on the same Classic UX or Prime Intense primer underneath.
How to apply
Sand to a fine grit, dust off, prime with Classic UX (or Prime Intense on high-tannin hardwoods). Mix the Traffic HD hardener into the base and give it the induction time per the TDS. Apply two coats at 8-10 m²/L with a 2-3 hour recoat window. Walk-on after 24 hours. Back to full commercial traffic as the cure progresses over the following week.
