Bona Classic UX
The everyday primer. Natural timber tone, great filling, easy to abrade, non-yellowing.
What it is
Classic UX is Bona's workhorse water-based primer -- light colouration, keeps the timber looking like the timber, and sets up a clean even base for any Bona topcoat above it. It's also the matching primer for Bona Traffic HD Raw when you're going for a truly "untreated" look.
Why installers use it
- Keeps the natural look. Light colouration, minimal tint shift -- the timber still reads like bare timber under the topcoat.
- Great filling ability. Builds an even film over the grain so your topcoat flows smoothly and you don't chase thin spots.
- Easy to abrade. Intercoat sanding is quick, no gummy build-up on the screen.
- Non-yellowing. Keeps its colour over the life of the floor.
- Reduces grain raising. Less sanding work between coats.
- Minimises edge-bonding. Less risk of side-bonding forcing cracks as the boards move seasonally.
- Dries in 1-2 hours. Doesn't slow the job down.
- Low VOC. TVOC only 48 g/L -- safer on the jobsite and for the home-owner.

- Coverage: around 8 m² per litre per coat.
- Drying: 1-2 hours between coats.

Classic UX or Prime Intense?
Classic UX is the default -- natural tone, most species, most jobs. Reach for Prime Intense instead when you're working a high-tannin hardwood like blackbutt or tallowwood (Classic UX is not recommended on those because tannin bleed can wash through), or when you specifically want to pop the grain and deepen the colour. Ring with the species and we'll tell you which one.
How to apply
Sand to a fine grit and dust off. Roll or T-bar Classic UX at ~8 m²/L. Give it 1-2 hours to dry. Light intercoat abrade, then two coats of your topcoat -- Traffic HD or Traffic GO for commercial, Mega or Wave 2K for residential, Traffic HD Raw for the untreated look.
